IDLES

IDLES is a British punk rock band formed in Bristol in 2009. The band consists of members Joe Talbot (vocals), Mark Bowen (guitar), Lee Kiernan (guitar), Adam Devonshire (bass guitar), and Jon Beavis (drums). IDLES' music is characterized by its aggressive and raw sound, socially conscious lyrics, and energetic live performances.

IDLES - Brutalism

The band's early years were marked by a string of EP releases and live performances, but it wasn't until the release of their debut album, "Brutalism," in 2017 that they began to gain widespread attention. The album was critically acclaimed for its powerful blend of punk rock and post-punk influences, as well as its politically charged lyrics that addressed issues such as toxic masculinity, class inequality, and Brexit.
Following the success of "Brutalism," IDLES quickly released their second album, "Joy as an Act of Resistance," in 2018. The album was even more successful than its predecessor, garnering widespread critical acclaim and earning the band a dedicated fan base. "Joy as an Act of Resistance" continued to explore themes of social justice and personal growth, but also included more personal lyrics that delved into Talbot's struggles with mental health.

IDLES' third album, "Ultra Mono," was released in 2020 and further cemented the band's status as one of the most important punk rock bands of the decade. The album featured collaborations with a number of high-profile musicians, including David Yow of The Jesus Lizard and Jehnny Beth of Savages. "Ultra Mono" continued to address themes of social justice and personal growth, but also included more experimental production and instrumentation.

Throughout their career, IDLES have been praised for their energetic and confrontational live performances, which often include Talbot climbing into the crowd and singing directly to fans. The band has also been vocal about their support for social justice causes, with Talbot often using his platform to speak out against issues such as racism, sexism, and homophobia.
